Common Sense Applied to Speedheat
Speedheat® Floor Heating
Speedheat systems and accessories are pretty straight-forward. However, it seems that there are a few things that people just aren't sure about with our heating systems, so we'll clarify here...
THE ELEMENT WIRE
They are made out of a very thin element. This element is double-insulated with a full ground surround - this means that the entire core of the element is surrounded by tiny, multi-stranded wires... and it is connected to a GFCI protected plug or thermostat.
Ok, so some of your eyes just glazed over, I know... but there's a good reason to know this stuff...
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)
The GFCI protection means that if you cut the element, there will be a fault in the ground, and the circuit will be interrupted!
This is good because if it didn't, you could be shocked, start a fire, etc.
However, some people do not seem to get this...
You cannot bring sharp objects around the heating element before, during, or after installation.
In short... DO NOT BREAK THE ELEMENT WIRE
Things to keep away from... or at the very least, use extreme caution with would be:
-
Sharp Things
- Knives
- Scissors
- Drills
- Saws of any sort
- Broken Glass
- Cleats
- Jackhammers
- Razors
- Teeth
- Pointy Things of any sort
- Nails
- Screws
- Metal with sharp edges
- Plastic with sharp edges
- Wood with sharp edges
- Sharp edges of tile
- Chisels
-

DO NOT Expect a 3' x 2' heater to heat 100 ft²
In most cases, you will want to cover about 80% of the open floor area for primary heating.
If you are just wanting to supplement your primary heating, you will more than likely need less coverage (unless you are in extreme temperatures)
To warm your floor in your sitting, play, exercise, etc. areas, you can simply place the heating where you will be occupying!
For help with creating a customized system, simply fax or email us a layout with the subfloor, climate, whether primary, supplementary, or floor warming, flooring type, and exact dimensions of the room and any large objects.
